Belgian fintech Monizze and impact-driven startup Better are joining forces to launch a groundbreaking concept in the world of corporate philanthropy: the solidarity voucher. Traditionally, companies decide at the top which causes they support.

This new system puts that choice in the hands of employees — a first in Belgium and Europe. Together, Monizze and Better aim to bring solidarity back to the heart of professional life: where companies see an ESG budget, Monizze and Better see an opportunity to reconnect people with their power to make a difference.

Employees become the driving force behind corporate philanthropy

In Belgium, hundreds of associations struggle to fund their missions. Some spend up to 40% of their time looking for financing. On the corporate side, CSR budgets exist but are often centralized, with little employee involvement. The solidarity voucher transforms the way we give: it restores meaning to the “S” in ESG. Instead of ticking a CSR box, companies create — together with their teams — real and measurable social impact.

With the solidarity voucher, any SME can now take concrete action, without specific expertise, without administrative complexity, and at low cost. A tool designed to democratize social engagement, accessible to all companies.

“We want to strengthen employee engagement by giving them a voice in their employer’s philanthropic choices. It’s a new way to connect a company’s values with those of its employees,” says Jean-Louis Van Houwe, CEO of Monizze. “With the solidarity voucher, societal engagement becomes a collective project embraced by everyone within the company.”

A simple gesture, a collective impact

Employees receive a budget — monthly or one-off — determined by the employer, for example €5, €10, €20 or more. They are then invited to select, in their Monizze app and in just a few clicks, the association they wish to support from among the organizations chosen by Better.

Employees wishing to support the same organisation over time can opt for a recurring donation. Those who prefer not to choose will have their contribution automatically allocated to a predefined “association of the month”. Companies also retain the right to a tax certificate.

More engagement, more impact.

Beyond a new engagement tool, the solidarity voucher enables companies to concretely measure their social impact. A detailed annual report lists all donations, amounts, and supported themes — a valuable asset for internal communication or external reporting, for example within the B Corp reporting framework.

“Currently in Belgium, the average donor is older than the legal retirement age,” explains Marie Logé, co-founder of Better. “With this initiative, we want to bring solidarity back to the heart of the active population. Giving should become as natural as consuming.”

A unique alliance between an HR fintech and an impact startup

Active since 2022 with a fund hosted by the King Baudouin Foundation, Better is responsible for selecting recognized associations, ensuring secure donation transfers, and guaranteeing that each donor receives the appropriate tax acknowledgment of their generosity.

Monizze, for its part, integrates the solidarity voucher into its existing ecosystem — alongside meal vouchers, eco vouchers, gift vouchers, sport/culture vouchers, mobility budget, and cafeteria plan — for centralized, simple, and fast management. Everything has been designed so that participatory philanthropy is as easy as a digital payment, for both employers and employees.

The solidarity voucher is a reminder that through every donation, big or small, each of us can be an agent of change. Together, employees and companies can build a living form of solidarity that meets the needs of our time.
