Some years bring little change. And then there is 2026.

Not because a single “big revolution” is happening overnight, but because several legal texts published at the end of 2025 are reshaping the playing field. And that playing field? It’s the one your clients operate in, and the one you support them in every day.

The problem? Between what’s circulating on LinkedIn, what others are saying, and what is actually written in the law, many business owners lose clarity. And that’s when they call you to sort things out.

Here are the four key topics that will define 2026, and how you can address them simply and clearly.

1. Increase of meal vouchers to €10

In 2026, the cap on meal vouchers changes:

  • The maximum value of a meal voucher is now set at €10
  • The tax-deductible portion for the employer or self-employed person doubles, from €2 to €4 on the condition that the value of the meal voucher is effectively raised to €10
  • Any change to the value of meal vouchers must be formalised through a collective labour agreement or an individual agreement
  • For a €10 meal voucher:
    • Employer contribution: maximum €8.91 (previously €6.91)
    • Employee contribution: minimum €1.09

What your clients expect from you: they mainly want to know whether they need to take action, whether they are already compliant, or whether keeping things unchanged remains a defensible option. Your role is to help them understand what the law allows, what is required or not, and how this decision fits into their overall compensation strategy. For an employee receiving 220 meal vouchers per year, increasing the value from €8 to €10 represents €440 in additional net purchasing power, a concrete argument for both talent retention and employer branding.

2. Status of eco vouchers in 2026

In 2026, eco vouchers remain in place within a stable and fully valid legal framework. Contrary to some alarmist announcements, the system is neither abolished nor weakened.
Although eco vouchers have been declared “on their way out” more than once, they are very much alive and their range of uses was even expanded in 2025.

What has mainly changed is perception. Companies hear about potential reforms or political debates, without always distinguishing between current applicable law and purely hypothetical discussions. This confusion often leads to unnecessary hesitation.

What your clients expect from you: reassurance, a refocus on the rules that apply today, and help turning background noise into informed decisions.

3. Mandatory introduction of the mobility budget

In 2026, the mobility budget will no longer be just a voluntary tool. The principle of an obligation to offer a mobility budget has now been established at the federal level, with a gradual implementation based on company size.

While the theoretical start date is 1 January 2026, exemptions and transition periods are provided:

  • Companies with up to 15 employees remain exempt
  • Medium-sized and large companies benefit from a transition timeline, with full implementation expected by 2027–2028

What your clients expect from you: they want to know whether they are concerned by the obligation, when it applies, and under which conditions the mobility budget must be offered. Want to know more? Read our blog article on the mobility budget.

4. Electronic invoicing via Peppol

As of 1 January 2026, electronic invoicing via the Peppol network has become the new standard for VAT-registered companies in Belgium subject to B2B invoicing obligations. This marks a logical step towards simplifying and securing administrative exchanges between businesses.

In practice, the impact is often limited, especially when suppliers are already connected. In those cases, the transition happens smoothly, while improving reliability and automation.

What your clients expect from you: confirmation of whether they are subject to the Peppol obligation, a clear and simple explanation of what this changes in practice, and above all, reassurance. Your role is to show that this evolution fits into a positive, forward-looking dynamic and can be implemented without unnecessary complexity.
